If there's one thing that's true about dental emergencies, it is that they are inconvenient. Your Norfolk County Dental Care team is here to help if you or a family member has a dental emergency

It also helps to minimize stress and panic when you know what to do during dental emergencies in Norfolk. So, today, we're offering helpful tips on what to do during a tooth emergency until you can reach our dental office.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If you have a tooth that's dislodged or knocked out, time is of the essence, as we have a better chance of saving the tooth the sooner we can treat it. Contact us right away and try not to handle the tooth too much while you make your way to our dental office.

If you can't place the tooth back into its socket, use milk or saliva to keep it moist while you transport it.

Broken or Chipped Teeth

Contact our dental office to determine if you need immediate attention. A broken tooth may or may not cause sensitivity or discomfort that you can use over-the-counter medication to manage if needed until we can see you.

Toothache or Dental Pain

A constant and severe toothache that doesn't go away with over-the-counter pain medication could indicate a tooth infection or abscessed tooth. An infected tooth won't resolve on its own and requires treatment in order to prevent further damage to your tooth, neighboring teeth, and even other critical areas of your body.

You can use a cold compress and ibuprofen to manage swelling and discomfort until we can see you.

Lost or Broken Dental Restoration

A damaged or lost filling or crown leaves your tooth compromised and will need to be repaired or replaced. Use over-the-counter medication for discomfort until we can see you, and bring your crown with you if you can.
